You can call me....Bee, Bear Bee

THIS CUTE LITTLE BEE BEAR(say that 5 times fast!!) WAS CREATED OVER THE WEEKEND.  I AM STARTING TO THINK ABOUT MAKING THE OUTFITS/COSTUMES MAGNETIC.  I THIK MY BEAR WOULD LOOK MUCH CLEANER. I HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING YET BUT THE CREATION/THOUGHT PROCESS HAS STARTED. WITH THAT BEING SAID-I FEEL THAT I AM DOING A PRETTY GOOD JOB OF FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH MY CRAFTING GOALS. KEEP BUZZING.....

CUTE CUPID

1

2

picture 1 shows how the cupid bears was laid out. each cut actually fit onto 1 mat- WOOT WOOT! it looks like only 3 cuts but there are 4 cuts on 3 papers the wings consist of 1 cut themselves so that makes everything else on the striped paper cut #4.well I'm sure that you've figured out that I changed a lot in order for every cut to fit on my pieces of scraps.  if I wasn't so lazy, I might have moved the arrow pieces so the stripes would be vertical just like every other striped cut but I'm- you got it...LAZY. *I'M SORRY FOR THE PICTUE QUALITY* picture 2 really show that fourth cut.  and yes that arrow bothers me but not enough to actually fix it.  when flipping, rotating, manipulating ANY cut-there is a lot to think about...
1. IS IT (paper when cut) GONNA BE UPSIDE DOWN?
2. ARE ALL STRIPES (again cut paper) GOING THE SAME DIRECTION?
3. CAN I POSITION EACH LAYER TO MAKE USE OF MY SCRAPS?
4. HOW CAN I MAXIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF CUTS THAT I GET FROM 1 SHEET OF PAPER?(save the most amount of paper)
5. IF THE PAPER IS DOUBLE-SIDED--IS THE CUT GONNA BE ON THE SIDE YOU WANT?
6. IF I ROTATE THIS SHAPE-DO I NEED TO ROTATE ANY CORRESPONDING SHAPES?
EVEN THOUGH THIS SEEMS LIKE A LOT TO REMEMBER-IT KIND OF BECOMES SECOND NATURE AND YOU DON'T EVEN REALIZE YOU'VE MADE ALL THESE CONSIDERATIONS.  IF YOU ARE NOT SURE THINGS WILL CUT THE WAY YOU THINK-TRY SCRAP PAPER FIRST.WHEN YOU ARE REMOVING THINGS FROM THE MAT BE SURE YOU NOTE(physically or mentally) WHICH SIDE GOES UP BECAUSE THINGS GO TOGETHER BETTER IF YOU ADHERE THE APPROPRIATE SIDE.(I keep a pencil handy. it is a good idea to always have a pencil handy for any crafting project.)( I am now seeing that part of this post should be in caps so that it matches but...LAZY.) SO YOU'VE PROBABLY REMEBERED THAT I MADE AN ADDITIONAL BEAR FOR MY MOM-SO IT TECHNICALLY TOOK TWO MATS. I AM FINDING OUT THAT PUTTING THINGS TOGETHER ON YOUR MAT...PRICELESS. I NOW DON'T HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT MY PAPER MOVING-I SHOULD HAVE THOUGHT OF THIS YEARS AGO. YES I GET LOTS OF BRAIN FARTS AND I'M FINDING THEY CAN LAST QUITE AWHILE (any tips I haven't thought of-do share!! I need all the help I can get)  MAKE SURE THAT YOU FIT SHAPES TOGETHER BEFORE PUTTING ADHESIVE ON ANYTHING.  EVEN THOUGH YOU MIGHT THINK THINGS FIT-THERE IS A RIGHT ORIENTATION FOR EVERYTHING.  SO IF YOU HAVE READ ROWLAND READER YOU KNOW SOME OF MY RESOLUTIONS FOR THIS YEAR-SO FOLLOW EACH BLOG TO SEE HOW I AM DOING.
KEEP CRAFTING.....

Reindeer Games

My latest project consisted of making the cute little reindeer bear from this spectacular cricut cartridge. this project took just over 4 hours and there are a few things to keep in mind as my projects will most likely take a little longer than yours-
  • I was creating 2 bear outfits
  • the dexterity of my hands might add the same step 2 or 3 times
  • I also laminated both outfits
**real dial size was NOT used for this project**
**outfits were cut at 9.5" for the two large bears i made**
**cricut craft room will work with ANY cricut machine   (you can change you virtual mat also**
lets start...
  1. Select the cartridge(s) you will be working with. put the cartridge into you cricut so you don't forget it when your ready to cut your project. if you are using cricut craft room and the cartridge is linked to your account-the machine DOES NOT need a physical cart.
  2. This particular cart. has 4 different layers or 4 cut per outfit/costume. this is a picture of my cricut craft room layout. each quadrant is 1 layer or cut. yes the red layer is arranged for my needs so it has been split up.  part of it now will cut in a different paper or pattern. and remember that what you see is how it will cut!!(and yes this project is now saved to my account so my bear can have this outfit/costume again if he needs it.**the lower right quadrant(the one with the wreath in it) has been flipped and i will dicuss those reasons later**
  3. Decide which paper(s) you would like to use. these doubled-sided papers are great!! I love double-sided paper because it helps me quickly decide on which designs work well together.
  4. Cut the parts of your outfit. technically each cut will fit onto my 12x12 mat. when using cricut craft room it will save lots of paper because you will be able to move each cut as close to the edge or other cuts as you want. because i'm kinda lazy and didn't feel like cutting the brown paper I had to cut that antlers on a separate mat. I wanted to show the scrap that will be saved for future projects.

this is what my mat(s) look like
.
new mats get TOP and a # written on the clear protective cover. (this is supposed to make it stay sticky longer as only one side touches the adhesive of the mat. the # is just one of my weird quirks. I like to put the "correct cover" on the "correct mat"
alright back to our steps (this is actually 5, but i messed it up-SORRY just add 4 to these steps)
  1. place each paper on its own mat. in this case i was able to fit the whole project onto 1 mat. the lower right quadrant was flipped because i need the back side of the candy paper. yes i could have cut the paper and flipped it but we've already determined that i am lazy and will avoid extra step at all costs. also the candy paper has glitter on it and glitter does not adhere well to  the mat
  2. step 6 gets 2 pictures because i had a minor snafu occur. i did not adhere one of my paper secure and had to replace part of it-this happens to most everyone
as another side note...when adhering something to glitter paper or glitter paper to something additional adhesive is required.  i use glue dots. just a tape runner DOES NOT work well

step 5

what step 6 should look like

step 6 for reindeer 2

the final un-laminated project
i am now figuring out how this post should have been done so i will try to do better in the future.

Boo! Bear

I WANTED TO SHARE THE HALLOWEEN BEAR WITH YOU ALL.  THERE IS ALSO A PUMPKIN COSTUME BUT I HAVEN'T HAD TIME TO DESIGN IT YET.  BY DESIGN I MEAN CAREFULLY CHOOSING EACH PAPER TO CUT.  I KNOW SOME OF YOU ARE PROBABLY TIRED OF SEEING THE DIFFERENT BEAR COSTUMES BUT I HAVE LEARNED THAT THE BEST WAY TO REALLY GET TO KNOW YOUR CARTRIDGE IS TO WORK WITH IT UNTIL YOUR BURNED OUT WITH IT.
MY BEAR WAS CUT AT 9 1/2 INCHES (9.5"). I HAPPEN TO HAVE THE CRICUT EXPRESSION 2 OR THE BIG KAHUNA.  I STARTED THIS JOURNEY WITH THE PERSONAL CUTTER OR THE LITTLE BUG.  THE LITTLE BUG IS GREAT FOR CARDS AND LITTLE DECORATIONS.  THE CLOTHES FOR EACH COSTUME ARE CUT WITH REAL DIAL SIZE OFF(RELATIVE)(PROPORTIONATE). WHATEVER THE WORD YOU CHOOSE MEANS THAT WHEN THE MACHINE IS SET TO A PARTICULAR SIZE THEN WHATEVER IS CUT WILL THEN FIT PRECISELY.  OK I LOST MYSELF-IF I WANT THE CLOTHES TO FIT I NEED TO CUT THEM TO FIT THE BEAR.  THE CLOTHES ARE NOT TOO SMALL OR TO BIG-THINGS TURN OUT JUST RIGHT. IF I WANTED TO MAKE ALL OF MY LETTERS BE THE SAME SIZE REGARDLESS IF THEY ARE UPPER OR LOWER CASE-I WOULD TURN ON REAL DIAL SIZE. AND WHO SAYS CANDY IS THE ONLY TREAT...HAPPY HALLOWEEN!!

EVEN SOAP CAN LOOK GOOD

I DEBATED THE DECISION TO WRITE ABOUT THIS HERE. THIS BLOG IS FOR CRAFTS THAT I'VE MADE USING MY CRICUT BUT THIS IS A CRAFT AND ITS WAY TOO CUTE TO NOT SHARE. THESE ARE THE MATERIALS I STARTED WITH. WHEN I RECEIVED THE SOAP PUMPS WITH COLLARS FROM AMAZON, I WONDERED "WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THIS EXTRA PIECE FOR?" WE'LL GET TO THAT. FIND THE CENTER OF THE LID-NOT THE RING. MARK THE CENTER ON THE REVESR SIDE. NOW DETERMINE HOW BIG OF A HOLE YOU WILL NEED SO
THAT YOUR SOAP PUMP WILL FIT THROUGH AND REST SNUGGLY. MINE WERE 1".  MY HUSBAND CARFEFUL POKED THE AUGER BIT INTO THE CENTER. (WE COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO DRILL WITHOUT RUINING THE LIDS SO EVERYTHING WAS DONE BY HAND) TURNING THE AUGEGERF SLIGHTLY ROCK AND MAKE A SMALL HOLE IN FRONT AND BACK/  YOUR PERFORATING THE CIRCLE INTO THE LID. (IT WORKS BEST TO WORK ON THE REVERSE OF THE LID) SCREW ON THE LIDS UPSIDE DOWN-THIS WORKED BEST.
WHEN YOU HAVE TONS OF LITTLE HOLES-CAREFULLY TAKE OUT THE CENTER. (THIS IS VERY, VERY SHARP) NOW TAKE YOUR COLLAR AND GENTLY WORK IT INTO YOUR OPENING WITH THE THREADS EXPOSED OUT THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LID.  THE SOAP PUMP WILL SCREW ONTO THIS AND ELIMINATES THE NEED FOR GLUE. WE PUT IT TOGETHER TO MAKE SURE IT WORKED BEFORE     BEGINNING THE SUBSEQUENT JARS. (MADE 6 TOTAL)
THE NEXT STEP IS OPTIONAL- SPRAY PAINT THE LIDS AND RINGS. (DO NOT SPRAY PAINT THE PUMPS) MY KITCHEN FIXTURES ARE OIL RUBBED BRONZE AND I WAS ABLE TO FIND OIL RUBBED BRONZE SPRAY PAINT. I PAINTED THE LID AND RING WHILE THEY WERE AFFIXED TOGETHER- SO THERE IS A SHINY GOLD RING ON MY LIDS.(THIS PORTION IN NOT SEEN AND IT SAVED TIME) SOME GLUE THE LID AND RING TOGETHER BUT I
WAS TRYING TO USE A NO GLUE METHOD. MAKE SURE YOU PAINT IN AN AREA THAT IS WELL VENTILATED. MY HUSBAND AND I WERE OUTSIDE AND THE PAINT FUMES WERE STILL OVERWHELMING. HERE ARE MY 6 JARS AFTER I LEFT THE OVERNIGHT. I WASHED THEM OUT-BY HAND- AND LET THEM DRY FOR A WHILE.  I FILLED ONE WITH DISH SOAP AND FINISHED IT OFF WITH A CUTE BOW.
 WHAT DO YOU THINK?

KICKIN' FUN

I KNOW WHAT YOU'RE THINKIN'- ISN'T THIS BLOG SUPPOSEDE TO HAVE FINISHED CREATIONS UDING THE CRICUT?  WELL I EMBOSS A LOT AND WANTED TO SHARE HOW I DO IT. I  START WITH THIS BAD MAMMA JAMMA. YES THE BIG KICK AND THE BIG SHOT ARE RELATIVELY THE SAME THING(I JUST DON'T CARE TOO MUCH FOR PINK). WHEN I FIRST STARTED I ONLY HAD FISKARS TEXTURE PLATES.(I STILL HAVE AND USE THESE TO DRY  EMBOSS). I LOVE THE ADDED TEXTURE FOR MY PROJECTS.  SO...GET TO THE POINT. WELL HERE IS HOW THIS WORKS BEST FOR ME. (I WOULD LOVE ANY SUGGESTIONS)
*GRAB YOUR BIG KICK(BIG SHOT)
*GATHER YOUR TEXTURE PLATES
*FIND AN OLD, UNUSED MOUSE PAD.
(MAKE SURE YOU USE SCRAPS OF PAPER SO YOU CAN MAKE SURE THAT THIS WILL WORK FOR YOU DESIRED OUTCOME)
THE BOTTOM OF THIS MOUSE PAD WILL BE REFERRED TO AS SQUISHY.
MAKE YOUR PAPER SANDWICH
  1. MULTIPURPOSE PLATFORM WITH TABS ALREADY ON OTHER SIDE OF MACHINE.(AGAIN JUST THE PLATFORM WITH NO TABS)
  2. CLEAR CUTTING PLATE(YOU WON'T BE CUTTING BUT THATS THE ONLY DECRIPTIVE WORD I CAN THINK OF RIGHT NOW)
  3. TEXTURE PLATE(THE DESIGN YOU WANT UP TOWARDS THE CEILING)
  4. PAPER(THE PART YOU WANT TO EMBOSS TOUCHING TEXTURE PLATE)
  5. MOUSE PAD(SQUISHY ON TOP OF PAPER)
  6. CLEAR CUTTING PLATE(AGAIN CAN'T THINK OF THE CORRECT WORD)
YOU ARE GONNA NEED LOTS OF ELBOW GREASE FOR THIS.  IN FACT I THOUGHT I WAS GONNA BREAK MY BIG KICK THE FIRST TIME I DID THIS.  ITS A LITTLE EASIER NOW.  *MY TEXTURE PLATE KINDA CAME OFF THE EDGE OF THE PLATFORM AND DID CRACK BUT I HAVEN'T HAD ANY OTHER ISSUES**
**I REALLY WANT TO STRESS THAT THIS IS WHAT WORKS FOR ME** WHAT WORKS FOR YOU?

A HOUSE OF ORDER

I WAS GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO MAKE SIGNS FOR THE NEXT RELIEF SOCIETY ACTIVITY.  I REALLY ENJOY DOING THIS BECAUSE IT ALLOWS ME TO BE CREATIVE AND TRY NEW CRAFTING TECHNIQUES.  I WAS ABLE TO PLAY AROUND WITH CRICUT CRAFT ROOM. (IF YOU DON'T HAVE THIS-GET IT. ITS VERY SIMPLE-1. GO TO CRICUT.COM 2. CLICK ON THE CRAFT ROOM TAB 3. DOWNLOAD THE SOFTWARE 4. HAVE FUN!!) ANYWHO- I USED TWO CARTS FOR THIS PROJECT(NO I DO NOT HAVE TO PHYSICALLY PUT EACH CART INTO MY MACHINE). **IN ORDER TO DO THIS YOUR CARTS MUST BE LINKED TO YOUR ACCOUNT** I USED DESIGNER'S CALENDAR FOR THE FONT AND ART PHILOSOPHY FOR THE HOUSE.  THE HOUSE IS LOCATED ON PAGE 42 OF THE BOOKLET.  IT CORRESPONDS WITH "S" ON THE OVERLAY BUT WITH THE CRAFT ROOM YOU WON'T NEED THE OVERLAY.  KNOWING LOCATION MIGHT BE HELPFUL THOUGH. IT WOULD BE UNDER THE BASIC TAB IN YOU CRAFT ROOM(THERE IS A TAB FOR EACH FEATURE) THE HOUSE IS THE SECONDARY OPTION SSO SHIFT MUST BE SELECTED.  I SIZED IT JUST HOW I WANTED.  ON TO THE LETTERS. I WANTED TO WELD AS MANY FOR EACH WORD AS POSSIBLE.  FOR EXAMPLE THE WORD "HOUSE IS TWO SECTIONS.  THE "HOU" ARE TOGETHER AND THE "SE" ARE WELDED. (LETTERS ARE EASIER TO GLUE WHEN THEY ARE TOGETHER) ALL YOU WHO'VE TRIED GLUING EACH INDIVIDUAL LETTER-YEAH YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. THESE LETTER WERE ALSO CUSTOMIZED FOR THE APPROPRIATE SIZE.  I THEN PLUGGED MY CRICUT INTO MY COMPUTER AND SELECTED CUT. LETTER SECTIONS WERE THE RUN THROUGH THE XRYON.  MY XYRON IS ONLY 1.5" WIDE SO IT WAS NOT USED ON ALL LETTERS.(XYRONS COME IN MANY SIZES AND I HAVE NOT COMPLETED MY COLLECTION YET.  A XYRON ALLOWS MOST PAPER AND RIBBON TO BE PULLED THROUGH IT AND COME OUT WITH ADHESIVE ON THE BACK OF IT). THE ONLY THING I HAD TO PUT ADHESIVE ON WAS THE HOUSE, "HOU", "DER", AND "OF". I MADE 5 OF THESE BABIES IN 1 DAY-HOW COOL IS THAT??
